Poe Mill Achievement Center (PMAC)

Poe Mill Achievement Center (PMAC) is a free after-school and summer program for under-resourced children in Greenville, SC.

Volunteer Opportunities

After-school Reading Buddy: Volunteers are needed Monday – Friday, 3-3:45 p.m. from August – May. Read with a child for about 30 minutes. Children range in age from 4 to 9 years old. Some are great readers and just need someone to read to. Others are 2 or 3 levels below grade level reading and need extensive help. For the younger children, it involves reading to them, letter recognition, and sounding out words. For the older children, listening to them read and assisting with reading comprehension.

Prepare/Serve Dinner: bring dinner for 30 children around 5p.m. Monday – Thursday. Could drop off meal or stay and serve from about 5-5:45 p.m.

Summer Reading Buddy: Volunteers are needed in June and July; Monday – Friday 9:45-10:30am

Time Needed: Ideally, volunteers would come once a week for 30 – 45 minutes.

Training: Contact Hannah Dixon beforehand for a brief overview of the program and what is to be expected upon arrival.
