Paris Mountain State Park Friends
The mission of the Paris Mountain State Park Friends is to provide recreational and educational opportunities emphasizing the cultural and natural resources of the park environs.
Paris Mountain State Park Volunteer Teacher
School program volunteers are naturalists at heart who want to share the wonders of nature with 2nd and 5th graders, in the park’s Discover Carolina school programs. Volunteers may choose among the following activities:
- Assist students with taking measurements and observations at the creek.
- Lead 2nd graders on a nature hike around Lake Placid. (usually naturalists)
- Assist in a 5th grade Forest Ecology program.
- Deliver pre-visit kits to schools.
Volunteers are needed Monday – Friday, from 8:45 a.m.-1:45p.m., during fall and spring school terms (volunteer can select the best day of the week).
Frequency is flexible (can be 1-3 times monthly).
Free training/orientation will be offered on August 22, 2017, 9 a.m. -2 p.m.
OLLI members can observe (one day or more) in April or May, 2017, and decide whether to take the August training to become a volunteer.
Other requirements of participation: enjoyment of sharing environmental wonders with children; be able to stand/walk for several hours on uneven terrain; be available to volunteer in all kinds of weather.
