Greenville County Animal Care

Greenville County Animal Care is the ONLY open admission shelter, offering lost pet intake, foster/rescue, adoptions, clinic, and educational opportunities.

Volunteer Opportunities:
Puppy & Kitten Care: feed puppies & kittens under one year, tidy cages, walk dogs (volunteers can choose puppies or kittens). Volunteers are needed on Sunday, 3-5 p.m. and must commit to 1, 2, 3, or 4 times per month.

Volunteer are required to attend one 2-hour training and orientation, sign a volunteer waiver & background check, purchase a volunteer kit ($25 for canines or $15 for felines) and be in good standing as an Animal Care Volunteer and animal advocate. Volunteer kits include approved leashes (dogs), volunteer t-shirt, name badge, and promo materials).

Animal Enrichment & Socialization: provide much needed enrichment & socialization for our feline and canine population. This assignment includes participation in our reading program, chew toys & treat distribution, and preparation of all enrichment toys. Volunteers are needed weekdays & Saturday from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., or 3-5 p.m., based on availability.

One 2-hour hands-on training *shadowing” with a mentor volunteer is required. Volunteers must also attend volunteer orientation, sign volunteer waiver & background check, purchase volunteer kit ($25 for canines, $15 for felines), coordinate a training/shadowing session with a mentor volunteer, and be in good standing as an animal care volunteer and animal advocate. Volunteer kits include approved leashes (dogs), volunteer T shirt, name badge, and promo materials).

Last Call” Canine & Feline: provide end of the day last walk, last potty break, last cage tidy and water refresh. Volunteers can choose dogs or cats. Volunteers are needed Monday-Friday, 5-7 p.m. and Saturday, 4-6 p.m. Volunteers commit to an afternoon/early evening that best fits their schedule availability.

Life-Saving Ambassador: interact with interested adopters, answering basic shelter and adoption questions and directing them to the perfect forever pet for their home.
