The American Red Cross prevents and alleviates suffering in the face of emergencies by mobilizing the power of volunteers and the generosity of donors. Service programs include: Disaster Cycle Services (Preparedness, Response, and Recovery); Services to Armed Forces and Veterans; International Services; Biomedical Services; and Preparedness, Health and Safety Services.
New volunteer orientation (1 hour) is required for all positions.
Volunteers also complete an online application process that includes a checklist of onboarding steps such as reading and agreeing to Red Cross policies and a background check.
Office Administration/Front Desk Volunteer: Volunteer 2-4 hours once a week, Monday through Friday, morning or afternoon. Shift can vary based on volunteer’s availability. Basic computer skills and phone skills are necessary. Specific training is required for this position (2 hours).
Disaster Recovery Casework: Assist with follow-up casework for families who have experienced a disaster such as a house fire. Volunteer Monday through Friday, morning or afternoon, for 2-4 hours weekly, Shift can vary based on volunteer’s availability. Specific training is required for this position (8-12 hours).
Presenter for The Pillowcase Project: Participate in a disaster preparedness education program for 3rd-5th graders. Volunteer during school hours, Monday through Friday. Presentations are one hour; frequency varies. Specific training is required for this position (10-12 hours).
